Here is a picture from the Georgia Southern football day camp in Gwinnett county. As you can see, the coaches are checking the speed on the 40 yard dash. If you don't have speed, you are most likely being eliminated from recruiting and you probably won't figure it out until its too late.

NCAA Bans 10 Schools for Post Season Play

The NCAA's new academic requirements could give new meaning to the madness of March.

A record 10 men's basketball teams, including three-time national champion Connecticut, will be banned from next season's NCAA tournament because of subpar work in the classroom. 

UConn becomes the first school from a "big six" conference to face a postseason ban in either of the two most prominent college sports based solely on the annual Academic Progress Rate scores, which the NCAA released Wednesday.

Georgia Gets Verbal from Rico Johnson

Wide receiver Rico Johnson, a prospect from Swainsboro, Ga. who sat out his junior season due to high school eligiblity sanctions, was rewarded for his patience Saturday when he received an offer from Georgia head coach Mark Richt.

Johnson accepted, fulfilling a dream that had been momentarily deferred by his time spent off the football field.

"Coach Mark Richt offered me and I cried and said I was ready to be a UGA Bulldog," Johnson said. "I said it was my biggest dream and he asked if I spoke to my family, and I said that is what they want me to do. He said, 'Welcome to the family,' and gave me a big hug."

The 5-foot-11 wide receiver and cornerback prospect had to prove that he had the size and athleticism to compete at the collegiate level, despite not having much tape to show prospective schools.

But he answered those questions with an impressive performance at the Mark Richt Camp, where he posted unofficial 40-yard dash times of 4.25 and 4.28, along with a 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump.

Vandy Gets Receiver Carlos Burse from Alpharetta High

Vanderbilt earned a commitment from one of the state’s top overall prospects on Thursday.

Carlos Burse, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound wide receiver from Alpharetta High School, picked Vanderbilt over Mississippi State among around 20 football scholarship offers, which also included Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. He’s ranked as a 4-star by Rivals.

“It was the academics mainly, and I wanted to build my own little legacy over there,” Burse said. “Vanderbilt showed me the most interest.”

Burse is a two-sport star, averaging nearly 20 points in basketball at Alpharetta. He was recruited by colleges in both sports, but will focus on football at Vanderbilt.
